The complete application process for applicants from abroad is described in a step by step guide which can be found here:

Applicants who did not acquire their Bachelor's Degree in the Federal Republic of Germany have to apply twice.

a) Submit documents at uni-assist (https://my.uni-assist.de/ ). uni-assist will check them and return a preliminary inspection documentation (in German: Vorprüfungsdokumentation, VPD), which contains information regarding an applicant's entitlement to study in Germany. The VPD then has to be submitted to Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt. A VPD is valid for three years.

!!! Attention: In case your relevant pre-studies were acquired in China, India or Vietnam you need an APS certificate in order to apply at uni-assist!!!

Deadlines for applications for the summer term: We recommend submitting the documents to uni-assist until 5th of December as the VPD then has to be submitted at the Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt until 15th of January at the latest. Deadlines for applications for the winter term: We recommend submitting the documents to uni-assist until 1st of June as the VPD then has to be submitted at the Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt until 15th of July at the latest. Application at uni-assist is possible during the whole year, you don't have to wait for the application period to start.

b) Apply online at Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt (https://www3.primuss.de/cgi-bin/bew_anmeldung/index.pl ). The application period for the summer term (starting 15th of March) is from 15th of November to 15th of January. The application period for the winter term (starting 1st of October) is from 2nd of May to 15th of July.

There you will have to upload all the necessary documents including your VPD. You can still upload documents within the respective periods (there will be deadlines per document in the upload area) after you sent your application online (there is no need to send hardcopies for an application).

The minimum qualification requirement for all master courses is the successful completion of a Bachelor´s or Diploma degree with a total of 210 ECTS (in conformity with General Examination Regulations), or the successful completion of an equivalent degree at a foreign university. Further qualification requirements can be found in the respective Study and Examination Regulations (“SPO”).

It is possible to apply for a master’s degree with less than 210 ECTS (normally 180 ECTS); however, proof of compensation of the missing 30 ECTS has to be provided no later than the end of the application period by means of:

  • Proof of practical experience outside the degree course which corresponds to the practical semester of a bachelor’s degree in terms of content and scope. Please note that where documents are submitted to show evidence of practical professional experience or either practical or theoretical achievements worth 30 ECTS – in addition to a bachelor’s degree – the documents must clearly indicate that the 30 ECTS were obtained over and above the bachelor's degree programme. Confirmation can be provided by the university showing that the ECTS/internship were not counted towards the first degree. The duration of the practical professional experience gained outside the first degree should be equivalent to 20 weeks of full-time work. Furthermore, the experience reference must be submitted on an official letterhead together with a description of the tasks you hold.
    or
  • Proof of practical or theoretical studies and examinations passed at a German or foreign university in addition to the student’s first degree which corresponds in content and scope to the demands of a bachelor's degree.
We recommend that you apply at the beginning of the application period so that THI can check the documents in the first step and the applicant has the opportunity to submit additional documents in the second step. If you apply towards the end of the application period, we can no longer guarantee a prompt review due to the large number of applications received. As a result, applicants are often unable to submit documents by the end of the application period and in some cases have to be excluded from the process.

Language requirements:

Applicants from abroad who apply for a German-taught course have to submit proof of sufficient German skills, level B2. Proof of the passed exam has to be submitted until enrollment at the latest. A list of all accepted certificates can be found here: Deutschtests und Nachweise für Level B2 (pdf)

Applicants who apply for an English-taught course have to submit proof of sufficient English skills, level B2. Proof of the passed exam has to be submitted until enrollment at the latest. A list of all accepted certificates can be found here: Englischtests und Nachweis für Leve B2 (pdf)
