The process for application for applicants who did not acquire their Bachelor's Degree in the Federal Republic of Germany is as follows:

a) Submit documents at uni-assist (https://my.uni-assist.de/).

Uni-assist will check them and return a preliminary inspection documentation (in German: Vorprüfungsdokumentation, VPD), which contains information regarding an applicant's entitlement to study in Germany. The VPD then has to be submitted at Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt.

  • !!! Attention: In case your relevant pre-studies were acquired in China, India or Vietnam you need an APS certificate in order to apply at uni-assist!!!

Deadlines for applications for the winter term: We recommend submitting the documents at uni-assist until 1st of June as the VPD then has to be submitted at the Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt until 15th of July at the latest. Application at uni-assist is possible during the whole year, you don't have to wait for the application period to start.

b) Apply online at Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt (https://www3.primuss.de/cgi-bin/bew_anmeldung/index.pl). The application period for the winter term (starting 1st of October) is from 2nd of May to 15th of July.

There you will have to upload all the necessary documents including your VPD. You can still upload documents within the respective periods (there will be deadlines per document in the upload area) after you sent your application online (there is no need to send hardcopies for an application).

The documents you need to apply for a study place always depend on the study program you want to apply for and the admission requirements. Therefore, we cannot send you a list of necessary application documents. You will receive this list during the application process in the application portal. Based on the information you provide, individual upload areas will be generated there indicating which documents you specifically need to complete your application.

The requirements for the course are

- The successful completion of a Bachelor´s or "Diplom"-degree in Engineering or Science, or an equivalent degree at a German university with a minimum of 210 credit points (in conformity with General Examination Regulations)

- or - the successful completion of an equivalent degree at a foreign university

It is possible to apply for a master’s degree with less than 210 ECTS (normally 180 ECTS); however, proof of compensation of the missing 30 ECTS has to be provided no later than the end of the application period by means of:

  • Proof of practical experience outside the degree course which corresponds to the practical semester of a bachelor’s degree in terms of content and scope. Please note that where documents are submitted to show evidence of practical professional experience or either practical or theoretical achievements worth 30 ECTS – in addition to a bachelor’s degree – the documents must clearly indicate that the 30 ECTS were obtained over and above the bachelor's degree programme. Confirmation can be provided by the university showing that the ECTS/internship were not counted towards the first degree. The duration of the practical professional experience gained outside the first degree should be equivalent to 20 weeks of full-time work. Furthermore, the experience reference must be submitted on an official letterhead together with a description of the tasks you hold.
    or
  • Proof of practical or theoretical studies and examinations passed at a German or foreign university in addition to the student’s first degree which corresponds in content and scope to the demands of a bachelor's degree.

- Successful completion of the orientation and selection process for applicants  outside the EU and outside the EEA states:  Documented proof of energy specialization in their study program or experience in the field of Energy Engineering by internship and/or project work/academic papers .   You may also submit evidence of an additional test (GRE/GATE/GMAT).   Please take note of our Statutes for International Orientation and Selection Procedures

- Proof of sufficient English language skills, documented by an English test level B2: list of accepted English language proficiencies  This proof is not required provided the university entrance qualification certificate or the Bachelor´s degree was acquired in English or the applicant possesses the citizenship of a country in which English is the native language.

The above named requirements may also be changed for the coming application period, so please inform yourself again on our website before you apply.

GRE is not required. The selection of the applicants is based on grades and the results of the orientation and selection process.

Application period for the winter term (starting beginning of October) will be from May 2nd to July 15th.

You always have to apply online (https://www3.primuss.de/cgi-bin/bew_anmeldung/index.pl )!

Letters of admission and rejection can be expected by the beginning to mid of August.

Sometimes for Master courses with aptitude test or orientation and selection procedure 1-2 additional weeks are necessary, as the respective procedure has to be performed after the end of the application period.

We are aware of the fact that getting letters of admission as early as possible is crucial for the VISA-processing of our international applicants. You can be assured that letters of admission are always provided as soon as possible. Please refrain from inquiring, as this unfortunately can't speed up the admission procedure.

The semester fee for all students is 82 Euros per semester. Costs for living are about 900 Euros per month.

The tuition fee for citizens outside the EU and outside the EEA states is 1,200 Euros per semester.
